Gardenarium
In Mount Gambier, a garden centre that has grown into something closer to a small botanical world of its own. Trading under the Gardenarium name for more than two decades, the business has built its reputation on two specialist growing arms — Limestone Coast Advanced Trees and Limestone Coast Roses — cultivated on site rather than bought in from elsewhere. The rose range alone runs deep: hybrid teas, floribundas, David Austin and old-fashioned varieties, French Delbard and Generosa shrub roses, standards, weepers and groundcovers, arranged with the kind of granular detail that only comes from people who actually propagate what they sell. The tree lists cover fruiting and ornamental varieties, deciduous and evergreen forms, grapevines and even cool-climate bananas, suited to the region's cooler South Australian conditions. Beyond the plants, the site sprawls into a proper pot shop — teak and stone furniture, statues, fountains, giftware — the sort of accumulation that happens when a nursery becomes a genuine destination rather than a quick stop for punnets. There's a bonsai club that meets here, seasonal features on ferns, bamboos and camellias, and an evident pride in longevity. It's a place for gardeners willing to browse, ask questions, and leave with more than they planned.
