L.P.O. Neighbourhood Wine Store

A tiny shopfront on Windmill Street in Tarragindi holds one of Brisbane's more tightly edited wine lists, built by former broadcaster Matt Okine and his friend Dan Wilson, who cut his teeth running wine bars in London. L.P.O. — short for Local Post Office, a nod to the suburb's old exchange — deals in rare and minimal-intervention bottles from Australian and international growers, licensed to pour by the glass as well as sell by the bottle. It has turned a quiet residential corner of the southside into a genuine drinking destination, the sort of neighbourhood spot locals didn't have before and now lean on for both a takeaway bottle and a seat at the counter. Open Tuesday to Sunday, walk-ins only. Worth the detour off the usual inner-city wine bar circuit for anyone curious what a considered, small-format bottle shop looks like outside the CBD.
