Stephanie and Ken Mason have grown fuchsias on this stretch of road outside Devonport since 1985, building what's often described as the largest collection of the plant in the country — more than 1,500 varieties raised as tubes, potted stock, hanging baskets and standards, alongside a range of streptocarpus. Four decades with one genus shows in the depth of the range rather than novelty for its own sake, and a tea room sits alongside the growing houses, so a visit can stretch to scones after browsing baskets. It's a specialist's destination rather than a general garden centre — the kind of single-family, single-plant obsession that draws visiting collectors as much as locals topping up a hanging basket. Free trailer parking makes it easy to load up for the drive back along the coast, with Bass Strait in view beyond the shadehouses.
